How It Feels to Finally Burn Out as a Caregiver — And What Comes Next

Before you’ve finally had enough and ready to collapse with exhaustion you’ll go through a stage of symptoms and heavy emotions where it may feel like your walls are caving in, exhausting all available remaining options.  Let me share with you what that feels like.  I’m sure that you will relate.

You wake up at all hours of the day and night to care for your loved one.  You may be a son, daughter or spouse and this person is very close to you, and you are maxed out on compassion and guilt for what you are both going through.

You are emotionally exhausted.  You are burnt out and just not sure how much more that your nervous system can handle.  You feel defeated and depleted in energy all at the exact same time.

You find yourself depressed and don’t even know it.  It feels like an uphill battle, a constant feeling of fatigue, make no mistake, you aren’t going crazy, I know that it may feel like it at times, but this is a real condition that others like yourself are also going through.  Trust me, I understand what it is that you are going through.  Your energy feels drained and you feel like you are running on empty, your remaining fumes.

The day to day stress has your body worn-out.   It’s tough to get out of bed in the morning your mind can’t muster up the energy to negotiate with your body to roll out of bed in the morning to the alarm clock.

You feel overwhelmed with no one to turn to. All of this worry and stress on a daily basis causes total mental and physical exhaustion which you fear could lead you to a meltdown.

What you need is a support group and a community so that you don’t have to shoulder all of this overwhelm on your own.  You are looking for any kind of hope, you know that others can see it your eyes.  You need a place nearby to come to the rescue.

Dealing with dementia, memory care and Alzheimer’s is not for the faint of heart, it takes, patience, trust, timing and your full dedication.  You need a structured community and plan to give you space, to let you come up for air.

You need people who understand exactly what you are going through daily.  Sometimes you are too close to the situation and need some space to zoom out and get a fresh perspective with 2-5 days per week to yourself to find yourself again, to find that joy, smile and peace of mind.

We help with senior engagement activities and we are the senior citizen community center near you.
